Lonnie Gunn is ignition, the very thing that makes you want to get out of bed and crash a car into the nearest tree, but in a good way. Gunn takes us through a multitude of feelings, and she does it with excess passion, and she does it well. Artists always have the aspirations to make people feel with their creations, and Gunn does exactly that and more.

Gunn is an American artist based in London, and this cultural shift connects well to her versatility as an artist. With different sounds and textures throughout her songs, they are easy to listen to and easily accessible to those of the indie, pop, and rock realms. She connects to other musicians such as Angel Olsen and Weyes Pulp who are also known for their intrinsic sound and poignant lyricism.

Her newest single, Hammerhead, is a charmingly haunting piece of work that draws the listener in almost too close, losing time as the song progresses eerily in it’s musicality and lyricism. Gunn’s voice is filled with depth and color in a very atmospheric way. The emotions that get portrayed in this mix are exceptional and even a bit soul-stirring as one listens. With the perfect mix of vocal fry and distortion coming through in this piece, it feels as though the song is guiding one through a medley of pain and confusion throughout.

Sirens, French, matches igniting a flame. All of this production plays a larger role in Hammerhead, and it is an aspect of the song that truly stands out. Gunn worked with Parisian producer Niko May to bring Hammerhead to life. The different emotions come through with a twist in the gut, especially when the crunch guitar kicks in. As the song progresses, it creates a fusion of wistfulness, rebellion, and especially vengeance in some ways. It singlehandedly reels in the listener along through a story of angst and romance, which is more than anyone could ask for.

Keep an eye out for Lonnie Gunn. She’s a ball of artistry and there are many more projects coming everyone's way, along with a performance in London on the 25th! The retrospective femme fatale, Lonnie Gunn, is a source of eye-catching energy, and will not want to be missed.
