The Art of Asian Artists

First and foremost, Asians are currently being attacked for just being alive. As blunt as that may sound, that’s the only way to put it. People are still dying because of the color of their skin and it cannot go ignored. Asian culture surrounds us everywhere from food to music, and the people who created it should not be taken for granted. If you have not yet, I strongly urge you to educate yourselves and others around you because actions speak so much louder than words on a screen.

Music is a huge part of Asian culture and there are a plethora of genres to choose from. The global phenomenon of kpop groups such as BTS and Blackpink is still astounding. Though they are not the only groups to exist, they have broken into the music scene with a crash, being nominated for Grammys and performing at huge festivals like Coachella.

In technical terms, there is even a distinctive sound that derives from the oriental scale in music that catches the attention of many listeners because it creates such a unique ambiance. It is used regularly for meditation, yoga, and especially at spas because it helps immensely with concentration and focus.

On another note, this playlist was pretty challenging to put together- not because of the lack of amazing music- but because of the lack of representation of Asian artists on editorial playlists on streaming platforms and in the industry as a whole. There are definitely dozens of underrated creators who I have not been able to dig up yet, but as of now here are some artists who never fail to hit the mark with their music.

Laufey Lin’s, Best Friend, is silky- smooth and will immerse you into a new world. Sarah Kinsley’s new single Karma is the magical lovechild of Fleetwood mac and ABBA. This group of artists are so diverse in their sound and there is something in here for everyone. Happy listening!
