After an eventful season premiere of 2021, we’re finally diving headfirst into the month of February. For some this is a wonderful but stressful time to figure out the cutest, most innovative ways to provide your significant other with a gift this Valentine's Day. For many others? It’s most definitely not.

Everyone is scavenging on Etsy, running laps around Joann’s, and staining the side of their hands with graphite to try and write down all the wonderful ways a lover has changed their lives forever. “You are the love of my life,” they write, “Thank you for everything you do” they proclaim! However, this is a friendly reminder to please, take a moment of silence for those of us who do not actually get to stress out about our dates, and instead get to stress about a nonexistent love life. It is a sensitive time for us all.

The other day there was a Valentine’s Day Tiktok that came up on my “For You Page” where a girl was creating a mixtape for her date and then proceeded to create a vinyl out of all of those songs. It was excruciating to watch because of the sole idea that someone out in the world was doing this heartfelt activity out of joy and love, whereas my Spotify has been replaying minor by Gracie Abrams all week long.

Music is something that can either make or break a relationship and some may say it’s even more controversial than politics. What can one do when the lady is a diehard Swiftie and the boy is an incessant John Mayer fan? Don’t get me wrong, Taylor Swift and John Mayer are some of the most influential artists ever, but we can all agree that it is a most complicated emotion when Spotify queues “Dear John” after you cry to “Dreaming With A Broken Heart”.

That being said, we’re going to push all of our past music prejudices aside for this wonderful (or painful) playlist that has been curated for all of you who have no plans this Valentine’s Day. Filled with painfully beautiful songs from February’s guitar smashing SNL guest Phoebe Bridgers, to a messy combo of Swift and Mayer tracks, and even including worldwide hit song drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo, this playlist hits in all the right spots for a lonely 14th of February. So lay down, turn on your blue LED lights, and let’s all just wallow together in peace, shall we?
